History As Us

When I was young I didn't realise I was part of history. History was Something That Had Happened and, not realising that What Was Happening Now would be history too, I thought that Now was All. History was that olde black and white other country, recorded as such, and handed on to me in its black and white morals. But my 'Nows' are someone else's 'History'.

Now I am old enough to have my own history. Perhaps it's not much of a one as since 1982 I've spent most of the time in bed in a dark room in varying stages of incapacity and pain but it has been a life of sorts. I've not been well enough to bring up children and that also negates the grandchildren I would have had so I will not be leaving much behind.

But Now is All - for now...

...getting dizzy yet?

Very interesting topic. History IS happening now, isn't it?

The whole family concept is a shifty thing. I'm currently working on redefining all of it. Perhaps all the people we touch and make grow can be considered our children. Are our contributions to all other's development anything less than mothering? By my math, that gives us all infitite numbers of children, and grand children, and mothers, and grandmothers.

That IS an interesting topic! Now is the making of history. In our family, we call it making memories. I agree with On the Path -- family can be a broad group of people whom we interact with over our lives. Richard Bach wrote "The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other's life. Rarely do members of the same family grow up under the same roof." I too have no children of my own. I have a slew of nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, cousins, etc, not to mentions friends and their families, that I see as a part of my history.
Thank you for reminding me of these things!
